Workshop on Computational methods for descriptive and theoretical morphology

Seventeenth International Morphology Meeting - Vienna, February 18th-21st, 2016

Abstract submission deadline September 14, 2015

Category: WORKSHOP
Workshop on Computational methods for descriptive and theoretical morphology

organized as part of the Seventeenth International Morphology Meeting

Vienna, Austria

18-21 February 2016

INVITED SPEAKER: Rob Malouf (SDSU)

FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

While computational morphology is a respected and well-established subfield of computational linguistics with important applications in NLP, this line of research has developed in parallel rather than in tight interaction with descriptive and theoretical morphology. This has led to situations of mutual misunderstandings and missed opportunities. While the situation has improved over the last decade, there is still room for much cross-fertilization among descriptive, theoretical, and computational approaches to morphology.
This workshop is meant as a forum for presentation of work in any other area where computational methods are put to use to address descriptive or theoretical issues in morphology. These include, but are not limited to:

- Implemented morphological grammar fragments
- Quantitative assessment of the properties of morphological systems
- Quantitative approaches to morphological typology
- Design and use of large scale morphological lexica
- Use of machine learning techniques to bootstrap the morphological description of under-resourced languages

Submissions are welcome that present a computational method or electronic resource, use such a method or resource in original research, or both.

A more detailed statement about the workshop's topics can be found at the following address: http://wu.ac.at/fileadmin/wu/o/imm17/IMM17_WS2.pdf
